Representing Ukraine at Passport DC

Passport DC is month-long journey around the world highlighting DC’s thriving international diplomatic community and its lively and varied culture. We were honored to be invited by two different embassies, Embassy of Lithuania and Embassy of Ukraine to showcase Ukrainian culture during the Open Doors events of Passport DC.

Razom’s exhibits at the event featured the ancient and the modern:Jewelry by “Skifska Etnica”, inspired by the Trypillian, Scythian, Byzantine and Kyivan Rus’ art, and “Dobra Lystivka” (“A Fine Postcard”),  modern Ukrainian artworks in fancy cards to admire, mail, or display.

The Ancient: Jewerly inspired by an ancient culture.

For over 1000 years, the “classical Scythians”, as they were known to ancient Greek historians, inhabited the territory of modern Ukraine and the steppes of the North Caucusus. Thriving from the 9th century BC through the 4th century AD, at their peak they dominated the region stretching from the Carpathian Mountains in the west to central China and the south Siberia in the east. The Crimea-based western Scythians established and controlled the vast Silk Road trade network between Ancient Greece, Persia, India and China. The Scythians and resident metalworkers excelled at producing portable decorative objects for trade. The surviving metalworks represent their distinctive Scythian Art.

The Modern: Kind cards for a good cause.

“Dobra Lystivka” (in English: Kind Postcard”) is a charity initiative which helps to gather funds for those children and adults in Ukraine who need them most. Dobra Lystivka brings unique, modern art to portable cards that can be kept or shared, but always admired.
